New High-Speed Fiber Optics Implanting Machine
December 30, 2003Selbach Machinery L.L.C. has developed a new high speed fiber optics implanting machine. The machine is a major refinement of the first generation machines. It is using up to 70% fewer components for critical areas (implanting head and glue stations), thus making the machines more reliable and almost maintenance free.
The use of the 3D CAD system (AutoDesk Inventor) for the new design has made it easier and faster to develop the new machine. The machine integrates several secondary operations and allows producing directly from fiber rolls to finished and assembled products. It will be used mainly for smaller products of up to 6” x 6”, but can also handle larger sizes.
The output is as high as 720 finished and assembled products per hour, compared to 2-4 semi-finished products per hour on the first generation machines.
One of the most cost effective parts of the system is the integration of an assembling station for connecting fiber bundles to the electronics. In the past, this operation was done manually and therefore extremely time consuming.
